As a photographer, I often use this medium to explore mental health and emotion in creative ways. Adding to the ongoing and growing discussion of mental health in society is one of my main goals; whether that is the way someone thinks about mental health within themselves, or helping people understand how it works. I have been researching this subject since before I recognized I was struggling with it myself. That knowledge, combined with my own experience, and sometimes the experiences of others, inspire my work. In this photo, I'm aiming to represent the isolation of “time standing still” and how that feels mentally. I often do portrait photography so the pandemic has been a creative challenge for me. For this project, I incorporated self-portraits coupled with statistics to further display how Isolation has and will continue to affect teen mental health. This project encompasses how it felt for me and many teens when life became still due to COVID-19.
