Transcendence, Naomi Wood, 2020

This photograph unites my series of music-inspired work, focusing on the spirit of music as a whole. The albums contain the songs from my other artwork, chosen to showcase a variety of my musical interests. These bands are unique and have been incredibly influential both musically and personally, so I decided the turntable should emit the glow instead of an album. It does not specify a song and instead highlights music as one ethereal concept. I photographed the albums digitally and added the effect in photoshop. The glow was created using large, soft brushes, with different colours on separate layers. Then, I added pink accents on other objects, as if they were bathed in light. I picked the pink to combine the colours in the albums and help prove that the glow unifies them. Finally, I added sparkles, which solidify the fantasy aspect. The idea stems from video game graphics, where portals often emit a glow. I thought this was fitting, since music transcends reality, and grants an opportunity for people to do the same.
