Gaze, Monica Thompson, 2020

Often it feels like I’m walking aimlessly through life, living a constant deja vu where the same thing seems to happen day by day and there's nothing new to look forward to. It feels the world continues to revolve but I’m trapped in place, unable to move, and only existing to observe.
For the creation of my work, I have most notably drawn inspiration from Magdalena Pagowska for the emotional yet eerie and fantastical portraits that she paints digitally. Her art always has great use of colour theory, values and emphasis which are all things that I tried to replicate in my piece.
This work is an attempt to manifest this enigmatic concept in a unique way, and to resonate with others who might have undergone a similar circumstance.
