Through the use of the natural materials and processes, my project explores themes of change, preservation, and the inability to grow, in my life and society as a whole. Ice as a material represents the notion of a frozen segment of time. It's stillness and movement through melting allowed me to dive into ideas about the growth of relationships and work with the fundamental concept of transformation. The more I handled the ice, the more of it I lost, creating a temporary relationship which is reflective of life. While my process is self-reflective, my photography also looks at the theme of "Still life" in terms of global issues, such as the environmental crisis and our seemingly desperate need to preserve beauty. As the materials themselves contain a variety of symbolism and complexity, I aimed to provide an individual experience and connection for each viewer while intertwining pressing global issues.
