Smell Ya Later, Kendrick Te-Scott, 2021

This picture represents still life to me because it's about acknowledging someone's life and presence without them actually being there, based on scent. This specific brand of laundry detergent is the same one my aunt uses. I haven’t seen my aunt in over a year because of travel bans due to the pandemic. And, having the same laundry detergent makes our clothes smell like her. It's like she's around us without actually being there. “Smell ya later” is slang for “see you later” and I think this title perfectly embodies the hope of seeing my family soon while also being a pun about scent.
