As a 16-year-old girl growing up in the age of social media, I notice many flaws in society due to the effects of technology. I believe that it is essential to bring attention to these flaws in order to change the way we view them. In my work, I want to display feelings, ideas, and physical traits that are seen as ugly or unusually beautiful. I spend a lot of time scrolling through popular social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. I’ve noticed that the majority of the famous creators on these platforms are what society has come to believe is perfect. While there are many skinny girls with an aesthetically pleasing face, there are few who live outside those standards with larger body types or non-traditional beauty. I want to change these standards. I have used different sized plants to demonstrate the beauty in all sizes. After looking at my work, I want viewers to walk away seeing the beauty in everyone, regardless of their shape, size or colour.
