Triumph of Identity, Jaymes Lee McBride, 2020

As a transgender artist, I believe that in at least some of my pieces my experience as a transgender person will bleed into my work. My current work is meant to accentuate that to the fullest, specific to the pride a trans person can have when beginning hormone replacement therapy.
Shown through the mannequin, a blank slate that can be projected onto by the viewer, the transgender pride flag and the syringe of the hormone blocker Lupron, I want the viewer to think about the achievement of finally beginning hormone replacement as a transgender person.
The bright, saturated background and plain subject were inspired by Katya Havok’s various pieces, and the uncluttered background and singular subject as the focus was inspired by the works of Tim Brill.
