Untitled, Iyla Qaiser, 2020

When inanimate objects are captured in a frame unstaged, they portray the essence of existence and the nonexistence of life at a moment in time. Now, what better to illustrate this than objects that have been in contact with human emotions over a course of time but are now sitting still? If we were to stop for just a minute, we would be able to uncover the stories being told to us, even when words aren’t being spoken. Day after day, time starts to feel shorter which is why we should be appreciating those moments, and allow time to slow down once again.
My work depicts more than a couple of randomly left accessories. It shows that the story of life isn’t only told by living things, but can also be told by objects that we casually use in our everyday lives. Clothing, shoes, makeup, or any object that we use to adorn our bodies, or our homes, will have untold tales that only become apparent through the round lens of a camera.
