Internalized Chaos, Evan MacPherson, resin, found objects, and photos, 2020

I have always been fascinated by my own experiences. I wonder how one could ever communicate their reality? How could one fully understand the experience of someone else? Our experience of the world is something so private and yet I continue to be confused by it. Perception is subjective and so I find myself constantly doubting how I see things.
My piece tries to communicate that doubt and mental chaos through the use of found objects and photo cutouts. Much of the work was inspired by the art of Kevin Beasley who creates sculpture through the assemblage of found objects cast in resin. Everyday objects can hold so much story and meaning and so I thought they would work well in my still life piece.
I will never be able to fully put my experience into words and so my art acts as an alternative and more effective means of communication. I hope others can look at my work and see their own experiences reflected in the private experiences from which I draw from.
