Pause, Emilie Van Holderbeke, 2021

When I started this project, I knew I wanted to create a moment of stillness for viewers. I wanted to recreate the moments where the air freezes around you, in these moments when you look out at a swelling wave, or at golden sunlight bleeding through maple leaves, and you can’t believe you were lucky enough to see this, or on a more morbid note, that you would be okay with drowning in the icy cold of the sea during a winter storm, snow and ice floating on the blue and creating a strange, speckled appearance.
