I want the art I make to reflect my perception of the world. Showing how one’s opinion shapes others and the spiralling effect that has on society and creates a toxic social environment.
This specific project focuses on the pressure and sadness behind the youth’s desired appearance. What society has spoken for the norm to be and, what is, therefore, considered to be beautiful. Having all forms of media presenting what is expected of them everywhere, this pressure to obtain beautiful, society-approved features at such a young age can lead to mental health issues that transition into body dysmorphia, which can lead to eating disorders.
Appearing fine on the outside but forlorn on the inside. Festering inside, melting years away, at what cost? If society views them as living and meeting ‘beautiful’ standards, they still are dying, but people only fixate on the appearance of one’s self. And how there is still life within that.
