Nauseated Nutella, Christina Braithwaite, 2020

Nutella. To some a delicious spread, while to others, a death sentence. I chose to do a scene set up for someone who had a nut allergy as it is such a simple concept that has many hidden meanings and can make for a complex story. I use this as a metaphor alluding to the idea that there are things you may want in life that are just not meant to be. This piece was inspired by a number of installation artists such as Jason Rhoades, Judy Chicago and Kara Walker. I also took a lot of inspiration from many still life photographers like Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe and Olivia Parker. The techniques I emphasized for this piece were colour, shape and texture.
