Life Story, Brian Kolahzari, 2020

I like finding simplicity and adventure in life and finding a way to portray that in my work is one of the things I almost always do. No matter the medium, I enjoy adding aspects of myself and creativity in my work. One of my favourite hobbies is reading for many reasons. For one, it’s a calming activity and an excellent form of escapism when you need to distance yourself from reality if only just for a few chapters. Another reason is that most books I read tell a story about how beautiful life can be no matter the circumstances the characters may go through. In that, you find relatability in the piece of written art, and you can apply what you’ve learned into your real life. To show that, I decided to place a potted flower in the middle of a stack of scattered books to symbolize the idea of a new life. Because in books we learn about so many other people’s lives, we can also use it as a reminder to be grateful for our lives as well or, in other words, use it as a symbol of growth. In conclusion, this is why I decided to display my love for stories and reading into the Magenta Still Life Project for this year.
