Illumination, Anisha Jessel, 2020

Over the past several months, particularly due to having to stay at home a great deal more, I’ve come to appreciate the hidden beauty and intrigue of my natural surroundings. I’ve found that we often overlook the charm of our everyday surroundings– the golden fields we drive by every day; the warm sunlight that reflects off the window across the street; the snowflakes illuminated by the glow of the streetlamp on a winter night. There’s considerable beauty to be found in ordinary things and everyday scenes. My piece highlights the warm, welcoming, and concealed beauty of the fields I’ve routinely driven by every morning for the past twelve years. A new perspective of the horizon across which I’ve watched the sunset an untold number of times.
